Using more drought tolerant grass species for a lawn is like buying water insurance.

-         Will survive water restrictions

-         Will flourish when water is moderate

Using native grasses means slower growth for less maintenance.  Once a month mowing may  be all you need.

 THINKING LIKE A NATIVE

The great conservationist Aldo Leopold suggested that we learn to "think like a mountain" in order to understand the complexities behind natural ecological systems.
At Native & Xeric Plants, we employ this philosophy and strive to "think like natives". The very reason that some natives are drought tolerant is because evolution has made them different than plants that evolved in wetter climates.  We are employing new technologies that support those differences such as non-traditional pots that accommodate deep tap roots of native plants

The owners:Stew and Margo Churchwell

Stew Churchwell has had decades of experience living the native lifestyle.  His back to nature sense took he and his family in the early 80’s into the mountains of Central Idaho where they learned first hand how to live off the land.  He managed a restoration project on the East Fork of the Salmon River that helped turn back a century of ranching operations that had wiped out the native plant population.  Now you’ll find shrubs, forbs and native grasses that support a myriad of wildlife.

Margo Churchwell comes into the business as a novice.  She brings the perspective of many who understand the importance of providing landscapes and habiscapes that best suit the environment because of their water conservation and shelter or food the plants provide.
